DWIGHTMESS: Your work is so full of delight; in your bio you say your stories are about everyday life and how that which is extraordinary can be found within the mundane. Can you tell us a little bit more about what happens in your stories? What type of 'everyday' conflicts/scenarios are you interested in? How do you think the moments in your stories connect to your life, if at all? What would you want a reader of your work to think or feel by engaging with your work?
Rossi: Nearly my entire practice is inspired by how I grew up and those experiences I had as a kid. I have a pretty large family, so I spent most weekends playing with my siblings and cousins outside without a care in the world. I really yearn for those simpler times, especially right now as an adult about to graduate from college. My way of being able to relive those times again, but with the perspective and experience I have now as a 24-year old, is telling stories about characters my age and focusing on these everyday happenings. That said, I still want there to be elements of adulthood present. As my “Full-Moon Inn” series continues, I’m delving more and more into these themes. I’m planning the next few comics right now and so far there’s going to be learning to navigate adult romantic relationships, processing parental relationships (or lack thereof), and figuring out how to build a supportive community for yourself. I’m also trying to address these situations while keeping the tone a bit lighter and humorous, so it’ll be interesting to find a balance of the two as I continue planning, haha.
